BROWN CHANNA / KALA CHANNA PULAO WITH COCONUTMILK

Today I am posting recipe for Brown /Black channa pulao.I frequently prepare channa kuzhambu since its Sri's favorite lentil, he likes this brown channa very much. I felt bit bored of preparing this kuzhambu. Whichever form we give brown channa sri likes it , but I felt like having something different other than kuzhambu so searched for a recipe in google,  I took guidance from sharmi's passion and prepared Channa Pulao and it is a big hit :) Whoo..hoo.. :D I packed this pulao for his lunch, got a message from him during lunch, saying that it is really good and it is not enough to fill his tummy. I cooked this pulao using coconut milk, it was soo rich to taste and I accompanied this with cucumber carrot raita. Give it a try , you will definitely like it.







Ingredients


Basmati Rice 1 Cup
Brown Channa 1/2 Cup
Onion(Lenghth wise chopped) 1 medium sized
Ginger Garlic Paste 1 tblsp
Green Chilly 2 or 3 Nos
Coriander Leaves 1/4 Cup(Chopped)
Cinnamon 1/2 inch
Ghee 1 tblsp
Oil 1 tblsp
Chilli Powder 1 tblsp
Coriander Powder 1 tblsp
Turmeric Powder 1 tblsp
Coconut Milk 1/4 cup
Salt As per taste
Instructions

1)Soak Brown channa overnight, or soak it in hot water for atleast 3 hours and pressure cook it for 4 to 5 Whistles.

2)Soak rice for 10 to 15 minutes, drain water completely. Now add a tblspn of ghee in a pressure cooker or pan, add cinnamon stick you can also add cardamom to the ghee, now add drained rice to it and saute it till all water evaporates. Make sure rice should not break. Transfer it to a plate.
3) Heat oil in same pan or pressure cooker, add onion , green chilly, ginger garlic paste, coriander leaves and saute it for few seconds. Add soaked channa after draining water, then add chilli,coriander , and turmeric powder to it, mix well and saute it for 2 to 3 minutes.
4) Now add 1/4 cup coconut milk + 1 1/4 cup water = 1 1/2 Cup. Add salt to it. Check salt and spice in this stage.


5) Now add rice to it and pressure cook it.

6) Transfer it to a serving bowl.



Note: 
1) You can also use Normal Rice for this dish, you need to use 1/2 Cup coconut milk and
 1 1/2 cup water = totally 2 Cups.

2) Since we are adding coconut milk , ghee and masala powders for the recipe, it gives rich flavor. So accompany some light side dish.
